RESEARCH

Mission Pediatrics also wants to start and lead research in the neurodevelopmental space. There is a dearth of research in the neurodisability space in Africa. Statistics and research are needed to tailor culturally acceptable and sustainable diagnosis, management and rehabilitation to our population. With this in mind the multidisciplinary team at Mission Pediatrics endeavor to research, write peer review articles and publish relevant data. The team will appreciate research partners, sponsorship and volunteers to make this a reality.

Research topics of interest include:

  • Epidemiological and prevalence studies on common neurodevelopmental conditions like autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, cerebral palsy, dyslexia, epilepsy, and intellectual disability.
  • The effect of excessive screen time on social communication and cognitive development in children.
  • Gastrointestinal disorders and differences in neurodevelopmental disorders.
  • Describing adaptive skills in Ghanaian children.
  • The effectiveness of parent-mediated therapy and parent training in the management of autism spectrum disorders.
  • Complementary and alternative therapies in the management of ASDs in Ghana.
  • Inclusive education in Ghana: what will make the difference.
  • Outcomes of early diagnosis and early intervention in children with ASD in Ghana.
